I agree. Good post Vi, especially at this time of year.
Our local vets get far more calls around the festivities re dogs, and especially puppies getting their teeth stuck right into the 'chocolate oranges!'

I don't know what bee you have in your bonnet this afternoon MM, but go outside and take a breath of fresh air or something.

Many many years ago when we rescued a Retriever in early Dec, on Boxing Day he was a little sick, my Mum said to me it might have been me as because it's Christmas I gave him a mince pie!!.
My hubby said to her he doesn't know it's Christmas, fortunately he was ok.

My dog is 7 years old and he is a Yorkie. He loves nothing more than the cream off the top of a freshly poured can of Boddingtons bitter and has done since a pup. But yeah a great post on pet safety.

Our westie Max liked nothing better than licking my finger after I'd dipped it into my glass of whisky. But it was a rare treat for him then (as it was me). As they say, all things in moderation,
Wish I could say the same now, though... Half a litre of Bells or Famous Grouse every afternoon ain't good for me, I know. And likely as not, this stupid habit is probably nulling and voiding all the prescribed medications I'm taking as reliefs for COPD.
I'm seriously hoping to break this idiotic daily (and expensive) home routine when I'm out in Paphos for the last half of Feb 2018. Just local beers each day, and avoid the brandy, LOL!

If 6 people drank half a bottle of whiskey between them each day, every day, they would all be classed as alcoholics by the medical profession, apparently. So if you are doing that on your own then you are definitely in that territory. If you really want to enjoy Cyprus, and actually remember your visit, I would knock it on the head before you come.
I'm not saying quit for good, but don't come to Cyprus to sober up, sober up to come to Cyprus.

Al it has been a tough year mate for you. Slipping into be alone and drinking that much will not help. Try to join a local group that people have lost dear one's and make mates that you can have walks with or help out at a local group. Do not press the self destruct button as your lovely wife would not want that. Hope ive not spoke out of term mate. x

Thanks for the advice, folks. I regard an alcoholic as someone with a 24 hour dependancy. A smashing guy I worked for for many years (died 2003 aged 52 of alcohol poisoning) went alco and was ordering a taxi to bring him a litre of vodka every morning at 1am from the local Asian corner shop...
I'm not (and never been) in that state! Starting at 2pm and ending at 6pm, when I go down to eat. Probably more like controlled 1/3 litre these days, actually. Point is, I will NOT be buying whisky (nor brandy) in Cyprus when I'm there, so silly daily habit broken!
Carlsberg here we come!

Sorry, but I think you are kidding yourself. The easiest test though, is to stop for a week now and see how easy you find it. And by stopping I mean stopping completely, not just switching to Lager.
