Paphos Celebrates ...

The projects are over, all of them are in perfect working order, double-checked, officially omitted and the world enjoys them and enjoys them. Paphos changed and finally came back! Or is not that the way things are?

In the last two weeks in particular, the Municipal Engine works nocturnally to prevent the best picture be delivered on the opening day. Rushing decisions, hasty moves, syroms etc. Not to finish the projects because Christmas is coming or something like that; on the contrary, all this is because the opening, the pre-election speeches, the promises and the cutting of the ribbon have to be made. Clearly.

We had a meeting with the Mayor of Paphos in all the Municipal Teams, in which we agreed not to spend our energy on election campaigns, but to concentrate on productive actions in order to achieve better results in the interest of our city. Instead, the Mayor prefers to split the Paphos Municipal Council and to open the 5 projects knowing the opposite view of the City Councilors. In fact, while there is still so much in our City, he has put forward the specific proposal on this issue, knowing of course that he would vote for it in a majority.

The questions that arise are the following: What is the hurry for the inauguration? Are the projects finished? Are there any shortcomings? Projects have been dropped? Do citizens not complain daily? Could the inauguration take place after the presidential elections where the whole city would participate in them? And if so, then why was it chosen to be done now? Is it simply to launch works because it is a pre-election period?

The works that are being done in Paphos are of historical and utmost importance to the city and its inhabitants. All these projects were carried out thanks to the efforts of the Municipality of Pafos, Paphos 2017, agents and agents of the city and even with European funds. We are really proud of the projects and we work hard everyday for the best result. The world of Paphos suffers and endures so many years to see them ending with sacrifices, inconveniences and expense.

Unfortunately, once again we are witnessing micropolitical tactics and we see our City being transformed into a subject of pre-electoral processes. What has not been explained yet is the Mayor's sudden turn, by a government critic and an "independent" champion of the campaign in Paphos and of course with a whole Local Authority at his disposal. Sad and condemnable.

I respect the decision of the majority of the Municipal Council to inaugurate the concrete projects. But more, I respect and love my City and in no case will I accept to see it become a pre-election vehicle for anyone. For this reason, I declare publicly that I will not attend the ceremony expressing my strong opposition, not for the works, but for the time of the inauguration. Because precisely, as the Mayor says: The works we inaugurate on Sunday are neither of Anastasiades, nor of Phaedon, nor of any party.
Strongly Agree. The works belong to Paphos and its proud people. And they are not given to anyone. Why precisely our City and its inhabitants must respect them!

It's called hitting a deadline, isn't it?

Nothing wrong with that.

Agree completely!

In addition, I would like to add that what the mayor has done for Paphos is to be commended & he has not been reluctant to put a few of the old establishment noses out of joint when necessary .............. good for him! :D
