Travel Insurance- is it worth it?

Just signed up for a 14 night single trip travel policy online. £37 which isn't bad, considering my +70 age and that I declared COPD as a pre-existing medical condition.
But when I downloaded my attached PDF policy docs and read through them, there were a few howlers! The first figure is the amount you are covered for. The second figure is the Excess...
Cosmetics and Toiletries - £50 - £100
Luggage - £50 - £100
Electrical items and Photographic equipment - £100 - £100
Jewellery and Watches - £50 - £100
Eyeware - £50 - £100
These so-called Travel Insurers are really taking the mickey now, are they not?

Certainly worth it, if only to insure you if something were to happen on the plane and you ended up being in a hospital in Turkey, which has happened to some people on flights to Paphos.
By the way, on our policy with Staysure, it states that if you are in an EU country, you should use your EHIC and the state system in the country were you are.

Al, your insurance policy should also have a substantial sum on it which should cover you in case while away you should need immediate hospital treatment which isn't covered by your EHIC card.. Some health insurance policies also cover your repatriation to your country of normal residency, in certain circumstances, though probably yours wouldn't. Have you read the policy inc the small print?
I hope that Lloyd's comment was just him being facetious rather than being the case.

I always had the understanding that the EHIC card was exactly for immediate hospital treatment..

No worries, folks. I do have the EHIC card!
Upon rechecking the policy schedule, the Emergency Medical cover limit is £10,000,000 and Repatriation is included, so that's comforting to know!
Just a thought, but I know we have many members who live in UK and travel out to Cyprus each year. Here's a link for the Insurers I just went with:

Well worth getting a quote for comparison purposes if you are looking to renew!
