Paphos Life

AL arrives in Paphos for a 14 night stay at the Veronica down by the triangle.

Planning lots of daily walks along the new Paphos coastal path, re-exploring Fabrica Hill, seeing the new walkway being built there, and so on. Just checked with Virgin that my mobile is active for use in EU and was assured it is.

Hotel has free Wi-Fi, so I should be able to call my daughter in UK for 1p/min on mobile voip, hopefully. Plus I'll still be able to contribute to PL daily, LOL! This should put paid to the protagonists who whinge about me posting on here, because I haven't been out there in Paphos for the past 8 years...

Morning Al, I use both Whattsap and FaceTime on WiFi to regularly call my kids in the UK for free. Though at minute I’m in the UK for an extended visit so use Whattsap to call my hubby who is still in Cyprus.

Hope you enjoy your visit in February.

What airport are you flying from, Al?

I, for one, cannot wait. I am really excited. We should all meet up on the day at airport arrivals for a big meet and greet. Then on to "tea for two" for a celebration breakfast.

Just to mention that WhatsApp IMO is the best for voice & video as well as being able to attach photos and videos. All singing, all dancing! Just make sure you have the most recent update on your phone.

Thanks for the tips regarding adding WhatsApp to my Samsung Galaxy Ace smartphone, folks! I will get that installed tomorrow, in readiness. Amazing how far technology has come...

In the old days of Paphos stays, with no mobile, and drinking at the Geranium in Bar St each night, I used to buy a Cy£10 phone card regularly and pop over the road to a Cyta phone booth to make a short call to wifey in UK at around 9pm local time, just to make sure there were no problems on the home front.

Why a short call? Well, in those days, Cyta were charging around Cy£1 per minute to call UK. You could see your credit reducing on the lcd display, like the petrol guage in a Jaguar V12. Ouch! That was if you were lucky enough to get connected in the first place...

Very difficult to hear the person you were calling too, due to six nearby bars pumping out very loud muzak...
