Can anyone who has returned back to the UK, but is still a member on here, tell me if they took any form of No Claims Bonus certificate back from their Cyprus Insurers, and if so, was the certificate honoured when they got car insurance back in the UK?
If yes, can you advise the name of the insurance company.
Many thanks in advance.

We were with Abbeygate in Cyprus and they did give me ,on request, a certificate of my No Claims however on arriving back in the UK, many firms refused to honour it but we did get insurance through Keith Michaels and also were offered ins accepting our No Claims with Aviva who I believe Photolady got ins with. What made it more difficult for me was having a Cypriot/ EU license and I still don't know why this should be but I have changed it back now to a UK license.
As an aside I believe that although our No Claims was accepted our premium was still more than had I not returned from Cyprus.

Thanks for the replies and also the post from August. We contacted Abbeygate in the UK and explained we had 5 year NCB cert from their Paphos office and how much for a 2004 registered Volkswagon Golf, that we were going to use. Quoted NINE HUNDRED AND SIXTY QUID !!!!! allowing for the NCB, because we were in the M25 area. What a con and will certainly be looking for cheaper to get, even if we do not use the NCB certs. Will, however try Churchill and Aviva.
Once again thanks for your input.

Glad someone could help you.... been out most of the afternoon having physio on my neck and shoulder.....
Now we're up to our armpits in a bit of flood water. It's not stopped p***ing down since about 11:00hrs today! Drains are backed up in the street and the drains at front and side of our house are just about coping. United Utilities have been informed and I have to get back to them in the next half hour.
Several houses in the next village are already receiving the inundation, not helped by cars driving past Sunnyside terraced houses at speed. I've told UU there are others with a greater need than ours at the moment.

@outasite: It's also worth having a look at
www.moneysupermarket.com
I just used them to switch to LV= for £208 which is what I paid Ageas (via a local broker) for renewal last year. But this year, the broker wanted £283 for renewal. It was a no brainer decision for me!
Enter 5 years as your earned NCB on your search. It won't exactly be cheap, because most UK car insurance companies use 9 years NCB as the maximum discount. However, many will give an introductory 60% off for starters. It really does pay to shop around...
Online deals seem to work out the best, rather than local Insurer's branches and brokers.
Good Luck! AL

It’s difficult to get an online quote because if you read the small print where asked for NCB it states “earned in the UK”. So you then need to ring around, and I found that the person taking the call didn’t know if they accepted NCB earned outside the UK and would need to ring me back. Most didn’t.
Arnold Clarke quoted the lowest price and it was still extortionate.

We were insured with Atlantic up until we left Paphos. We had no problems with any Insurance Companies in the UK accepting our proof of NCD.

We did most of our quotes online and as soon as we put in that we'd been overseas for a number of years, their systems automatically blocked us from proceeding any further and sending us a message "unable to offer you a quote".
We phoned a couple of them and were told it was because they only accept UK no claims bonuses. We had more than 7yrs NCB in Cyprus but the companies would only accept the ones from our last Cyprus insurer. Luckily we were with them for 7yrs and they were happy to provide us with the necessary documentation to prove it.
