No, but then we do have Cypriot ID cards and the MEU3 Certificate of Permanent Residence, which our lawyer told us is the next best thing to having a Cypriot passport - plus we still retain our British passports. :D

Surely the Cypriot ID cards have expired?

My ID card is valid until 2021

They will no longer be valid, regardless of the expiry date. The cards were stopped for most nationals sometime during 2011.

That's not to say that they are not useful as a form of I.D...

Hi PW, you can still retain your British passport as Cyprus and UK have a dual nationality agreement. These are some details of the application form/process: http://www.moi.gov.cy/moi/crmd/crmd.nsf ... enDocument

Although they are no longer issuing ID cards to ex pats, this does not as far as I know make the existing ones invalid.
They are certainly accepted at banks and the Post office.

And by just about anybody else too, including the police and various government officials. :D

Everybody except the head of immigration it seems...
After several weeks of calling, the Sunday Mail eventually tracked down Immigration Services head Anny Shakkali, who said: “We stopped issuing ID cards (to EU citizens) last year. Now all non Cypriots should carry an aliens’ registration certificate. They cannot use their ID cards.”

Yes, but when we looked into getting Cypriot passports, there were several things that put us off applying. For instance, the cost (non-refundable if application refused), the apparently high likelihood of applications being refused (with no reason being given), the amount of learning we would have to undertake prior to applying (language proficiency and heritage/culture/history knowledge)... So we went the MEU3 route instead, quicker (5 years' residency whereas I understand the passport is 7) and much cheaper.

I made an enquiry with my English Cyprus lawyer who has dual nationality through marriage.

She said the process, unlike trying to get a British passport, was relatively easy.

However, she wasn't sure whether the clause in my Cyprus will, stating my wish for English Probate, would become null and void as I would now be a Cyprus citizen and therefore Cyprus Probate would apply. The reason for being cautious was that she wasn't aware of it having been tested in court.

The other unknown, which was not in her area of expertise, was the situation with IHT which the UK has and Cyprus hasn't.

Pafos is right. ID cards for ex-pats were cancelled years ago. The fact that some people still accept them is a separate issue, but they are no longer valid, even if they are still in date.

Only Cypriot Citizens can travel on their ID cards, around Europe, their ones are legal,..holding one of the old ones is ok for showing to someone in the post office but it isnt kosher any more, You do not give up your UK passport even if you get a Cyprus one....as soon as Brexit kicks in, be prepared for more questions when leaving entering Cyprus, if your living in Cyprus but are not legally registered , then good luck with that one.
