Hi
Does anyone know if hunting season starts on Wednesday 1st November, or are they allowed to start this Sunday?
Thanks

Wednesday 1st November, then on successive Sundays and Wednesdays through to the end of December. So Sunday 29th October 2017 is a definate no no...
"During November and December, hunting can take place on Wednesdays and Sundays only during which time hare, chukar partridge, black francolin, thrushes, woodpigeon and woodcock can be hunted."

Thanks. So I can leave the window open for the cats tonight then.
I'm sure they have started the last Sunday of October before, if it's the 31st.

I would not risk it - there are sporadic shots already around my place...

I wouldn’t risk it either. When do the laws get obeyed anyway!

They seem to obey the laws of the calendar. The "No hunting" signs, now that's a different matter.

Cats, dogs, and songbirds too, by all accounts!

All the above, plus any wandering or stray cats, dogs, road signs, especially those denoting a "no hunting area". I hate the hunting season here! Totally un necessary slaughter of wild life in the name of tradition..
Then the following day we hear how many of these gun toting macho men have ended up in A&E with shot gun wounds, either shot by another hunter or sometimes in error they shoot themselves!

Thanks die
I knew it had started on Sunday 31st October before but didn't know it never started on a Wednesday.
Mind you, with the look of these black clouds at the moment, the cats will be indoors anyway tonight.
I do hate hunting season here, I will never ever understand shooting creatures for fun, and it's a pain to have to keep the cats indoors.

I searched this info from the anglo-info forum, Trev, hence the quote marks
"During November and December, hunting can take place on Wednesdays and Sundays only during which time hare, chukar partridge, black francolin, thrushes, woodpigeon and woodcock can be hunted."
Admittedly, that quote is 4 years old though (upon rechecking), so rules may have changed since then. As you say, today Wed 1st Nov will be the real test, so it will be interesting to read feedback later on...
For now, I wondered what a 'Francolin' was. It's a species of Pheasant that when disturbed, doesn't take off and fly like the usual pheasant, it just runs around on the ground. Might explain why so many Cypriot rambo hunters shoot each other (and their dogs) with their 12 bore shotguns?

Those Francolin birds are bred to be hunted, apparantly, which is one of the reasons they are too dumb to fly off when approached. We have driven down many a remote track to have francolin run in front of us frantically trying to get out of the way, because it hasn't occurred to them to move a foot to the left or right.
The hunting definitely didn't start today, Not a single shot was heard.
