There is a new structure taking shape on the TOTK roundabout opposite side to the Mall, anyone know what it's going to be?

It's an area of archaeological importance and the new structures look, to me, like covered viewing areas are being built.

Is it anything to do with what has been heard about an elevated walkway which is being built around 3 sides of Fabrika Hill and will continue as a pedestrian bridge over Agios Pavlos Ave.
It's intention is to link the archaeological site on Fabrica Hill with the main Archaeological Park (where the mosaics are). But as to how many people will actually want to use it when finished - will be seen! However its railings may prove to be good perches for birds in transit.....

Yes, a raised walkway makes more sense than my suggestion of viewing platforms. I think linking the sites with a walkway is a great idea!

That looks intriguing, and I will have a look as soon as I am back. I have noticed how many new things happen around Paphos, which is excellent. I can go away for just a few weeks, and something will have been improved or tidied up. Compared to where I live in the South East of the UK, near to supposedly affluent Brighton, it makes a refreshing change.

Looking at the pictures, I think Dee is correct, a raised walkway.

Agreed, a raised walkway mounted on telegraph poles from the sustainable pine forests of the Troodos Mountains (thanks to the Cyprus Forestry Department!)

AL :D

The supporting poles look like metal to me

This was the winning entrant to the design competition for the unification walkway. Not sure if this was the final design but if you scroll down you can see the idea and artists impressions of this one here http://www.cy-arch.com/unification-of-a ... mpetition/

If it is, then it will pass over the road that goes down to the harbour as there appears to be another support for a pole just behind the pedestrian lights on the Roman Hotel side?

Yes it is to join the archaeological sites on both sides of the road so it is going to pass over the top. This was another entrant https://archinect.com/eparchitects/proj ... ato-paphos

Yea, agreed Jan. I also have seen the plans about 9 months ago when one of the engineers was working on the site near the Mosque where the start of the walkway will be. I was working on the archaeological site of the old Roman Theatre at the time. I can tell you that this walkway is causing consternation among Archaeologists whose excavation sites are being crossed by ther new walkway. Especially where these people spent their valuable time with the govt dept concerned showing them where they could place the walkway supports that will be required in a way that would preserve the archaeology there. Unfortunately, as is often the case huge deep holes have been dug when their backs were turned regardless of the damage to the site! Another point of interest was that it was an archaeologist that suggested that a simple pedestrian bridge could be built over Agios Pavlos Ave (road from the Mall to the harbour) which would link the 2 archaeological sites! It was always quite easy to access the big site on Fabrica Hill from either side on foot, before the contractors started up their bulldozers adjacent to the harbour road! As it is now, this is much more difficult, and has been throughout the whole of 2017 Paphos Capitol of European Culture. The simple bridge over the harbour road originally envisaged would have been a smaller and cheaper project causing far less damage to the archaeology in these areas!
