Around the world with Amazon

Two weeks ago I ordered a toaster from Amazon. It is being sent from their warehouse in Germany, using DHL <sigh>. It is trackable, so occasionally I've been monitoring its progress, or lack of it.
It moved within Germany after a couple of days, then stagnated for a week. Then the tracking said it was on its way to "Jersey City, USA". Slightly perturbed, I shot off a note to Amazon asking what the hell was going on. I got a reply very quickly, promising that it would be sorted out and that I would get my toaster very soon.
This morning the tracking tells me that my parcel has arrived in Jamaica.......

So, cleverclogs, tell me where in Cyprus you can buy this toaster:

(I'm not interested in your opinion on it, just where I can buy it)
I won't hold my breath waiting.......

From the reviews, I would make sure you can send it back without it going around the world and possibly getting lost
It doesn't appear to do exactly what it says on the tin.... it gets very mixed reviews.

We just stick ours under the grill in the oven, or cook in the microwave between 2 sheets of kitchen roll - crisps up just fine.

I use my own judgement, thanks. I have had one in the UK for a while.

Amazon UK or Amazon DE.
I always pay the higher postal charge if the item is reasonably expensive, it usually arrives by UPS door to door service with Amazon in a few days!, normal shipping can take weeks, I think well worth the extra.

We too have fallen foul of the 'We will send it to Nicosia' problem.. Both on a printer and a switching unit from a Large Paphos Electrical store.
We now buy from Computer SOS, where IF there is a problem, you get good service..

That is a weird toaster. Surely a grill is easier? You must really love your bacon.
My experience with Amazon shipping to Cyprus has been terrible. The kindle I wanted ended up in Germany three times before I gave up and got them to ship it to the UK instead. My mum then posted it out to me. But what would happen if it conked out? I would have to send it back to my mum first, and she would have to return it. That would cost much too much.
And books I order invariably end up damaged in transit, if they arrive at all. Back in the UK I used Amazon all the time. But shipping to Cyprus sucks, in my experience. Bizarrely, when something is damaged, it will always have an RM label on it apologising for the damage. So it isn't getting damaged in Cyprus.
We've bought household goods from shops here without fuss. I've lost count of the stuff I bought from Paphos Home Market, Carreforre et al. The only time I had to take something back was at PHM and they were very apologetic, swapping it without fuss. Obviously, every item is different, but I certainly have never run into this "inspection fee" racket. Actually that's not true. In the UK, BT operate a similar policy if you report a line fault. If the fault is down to you, you have to pay for the fix.
Putting my site admin hat on: use Computer SOS if you are buying computer equipment. You will get personal service, and they have a no-fix-no-fee policy on general out of warranty repairs too.
Taking off my admin hat, when I met up with the staff at Computer SOS it was clear that they took customer care seriously. and they had a very wide range of stock too. I would have no hesitation recommending them on a personal as well as site admin level.

Ha ha that about the Kindle made me smile Dominic..

I am on my third Kindle this year, the first two I tracked to Germany. But rather than sort it out, Amazon just kept sending another one.

YES! That is exactly what happened to me. And when you complain, you can't complain to Amazon. Oh no. You have to complain to the Amazon Kindle team.
Somebody in Germany must be running a Used Kindle Emporium.

Yes, I do. I have a degree in porcine ingestation management (but I'm not an engineer).
Yes, it looks odd, but less hassle on the cleaning front than a grill.
