Fly screens again - does size matter?

I'm sure someone clever on here knows the answer, so here goes...
I've moved into a villa with some rather ancient flyscreens. Being somewhat hassled by the bitings beasts, I called out a well known fly screen firm (better not say who) to get the mesh replaced for two doors, a window and a couple of very small bathroom windows. The bill came to around €280, which seemed a bit steep as it was only replacement mesh. This firm is known as being expensive, but good quality, and sells American fly screen mesh. Apparently, nobody else in Cyprus is allowed to sell it.
The reason I went for this particular firm is that they tell me that all other flyscreens in Cyprus let the no-seeums through. Looking at their mesh compared to some of the better ones that I have, I can't really see any difference in the amount of holes per centimetre. I know a lot of people on here recommend Frank, but I don't want to risk cheaper mesh if it will let in the small black flying barstewards.
Is it true that the size of the mesh in all but this one company is insufficient to stop everything? I need to replace quite a bit more mesh, so I would be grateful for any advice please.
