Secure Streaming through Popcorn Time possible?

Recently, I came across this streaming service, one of my friends uses it on his PC, the service technically lets you stream torrents through some kind of bitTorrent technology, so is the service secure, what if I use a VPN with it, cause ISP doesn't really get along with torrents. Any suggestions will be appreciated, or any other streaming service recommendations too.
