I have long know "My Way " was based on a French song " comme d'habitude "

But I have only just found out David Bowie was asked to write the English lyrics , his version was turned down and the Paul Anka version was latter accepted .

I could not find a YouTube of Bowie singing the lyrics he wrote , but did find this one .

Even though 'My way' is not a direct translation of 'Comme d'habitude' as sung by Claude François, it is thematically similar. OTOH, the lyric of the Bowie version are way out from the theme of the original. François was a small blond man with boundless energy and had a backing group of 4-6 coloured beauties, not seen in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GME3fMeK5ts which is the original version.

Is this Bowie singing "My Way " ?
