Paphos Life

This is the view whilst eating lunch on Tuesday. We were at the Kanalli restaurant above Pomos harbour.
Quite a trek from Paphos but I enjoy driving around the Island.
The quality of the food and the service are second to none and if you can beat that view let us know.

I tend to agree with Flossie as the number of times we have found a place with a lovely view only maybe to have a cold drink and then move on. I'm prepared to pay more, as they are not necessarily on the tourist trail, but often the menu selection is lacking or the place lacks any ambience.

Mind you, the worst cornish pasty I ever ate was at Lands End.

Many of the Restaurants near the sea but also in the mountains (Kykko) where most of the tourists visit are under control or managed from CTO (Cyprus Tourist Organisation, Government) They are normally at the most beautiful positions but quality and service is many times catastrophic. One example is next to the Bath of Aphrodite...with this great view....

We have had some very nice fresh fish meals there at the Kanalli. Good choice of really fresh off the boats fish at reasonable prices. It can get both busy and noisy on Sundays or in August. Othertimes it is usually quiet and good service.

Best Cornish Pasties IMHO are Ginsters, from Tesco et al...

But a strange story emerges here. Pasties from the Ginsters production faciility are transported by road approximately 80 miles away to a distribution hub. Some of them then come back 80 miles to a supermarket right next door to Ginsters!

Go to Cornwall and tell them you think Ginsters are the best Cornish Pasties. But make sure you have a fast getaway car.

It's one of my favourite places like you I enjoy the scenic drive........I took a very similar photo the last time I was there

Reminds me of the "Grumpy Old Men" series on BBC2 a few years ago. Rick Stein (I think) complained about people asking him how much carrot do you put in a Cornish pastie. "I keep telling them - there's no ******* carrot in a Cornish pastie"

The worst Cornish Pasties we had were in Padstow - not Rick Stein's restaurant, though. x

The worse apple strudel we had was in Vienna, very disappointed.

I think you will find that the CTO don't manage any restaurants. They do have the task of issuing licences and ensuring the establishments comply with the law. This applies to all restaurants and snack bars whether or not they are in tourist areas. Unfortunately quality of food and service don't fall within their remit.
