Paphos Life

Hello,

Just wondered if anyone here has experience of bringing a spouse from a non-EU country to live in Cyprus?

I'm a British citizen in Paphos and my wife is currently completing a course in Philippines. Our 5-year-old son, also British, is at school here.

She will be ready to move here soon, so does anyone know the process for arranging a visa? All I've managed to find out so far is that she has to be here in the first place before we can start applying, which means bringing her over as a tourist.

If anybody could add any details as regards what papers we will both need to show, I'd be very grateful.

Why not pop down to Immigration and ask or alternatively call at one of the Citizens Advice offices. I am sure you will get the correct procedures and requirements from either.

No problems Smudge. My non-EU wife was here already when I met her, so I didn't need to bring her over. I imagine she would have to apply for a visa in Manilla, then apply for a yellow slip once she is here. I endorse what Chatsworth said about popping up to Immigration and asking them the question. I wouldn't bother with the Citizens Service centre as they know nothing about immigration matters.

Maybe the Consulate can help with information.

Funnily enough, he's the only one I've ever had, so should tell you summat!!

Number one is to make sure you have all documents Apostilled; Notarized documents are not accepted any more. They have to be Apostilled in the country of issue so if you were married in the Philippines you will have to get it done there. Birth Certificates, Divorce Certificates, Marriage Certificates, copies of passports, ID Cards. at least six months of bank statements to confirm you have an income. (the bank will stamp this for you)
If you go to Immigration in Paphos they will give you a list of different requirements like bank statements, insurance etc. Generally they only process EU applicants so yours and boys may be processed there and your wife's sent to Nicosia though when we last applied for permanent residency mine was sent to Nicosia.
You can apply for a 90 day tourist visa and bring your wife in that way and then immediately apply for an appointment at Immigration which can take up to 90 days; once you have the interview you are given a receipt for the application fee which Immigration told me legalises your wife's stay in Cyprus while her application is being processed. My wife waited over a year with an expired residency while her new permanent residency was processed and had no problems.
Knowing then what I know now I would use an Immigration Lawyer though it is much easier these days being an EU Citizen to bring your non EU Spouse into the country.
