Morning Everyone

Any suggestions or experience of how to get rid of bats?

They are going in through the roof tiles so the plan is to try and get rid of them and then fill the holes!

Yes there certainly are. Well in this area of Polemi for certain. I have seen them up very close..

You can have fun with bats if you have a tennis racquet and some pebbles. You hit the pebbles into the air at dusk, and watch the bats swoop at them thinking they are bugs. They seem to detect they are not bugs and won't try and eat them, but it is fun to watch.

Um, don't use an expensive tennis racquet though.

Interesting link you posted there, Memory Man. It contains a further link "What to do if you have a bat in the house" (just what the OP needs to know).

But sadly, that link gives a 404 Not Found error...

Bats are protected in Cyprus, and I think you will have to contact the relevant authority to have them removed, if they can and will. They are of course harmless to us, I love to see them at dusk flying around my house here in the UK.

I saw somewhere recently that one small bat can eat several hundred mosquitoes a night. I therefore intend to install bat boxes.

Yes, it's that time of year again for bats to be fluttering up and down your garden, just after sunset, here in UK and there in Paphos.

Amazing to watch them, with their high-speed flying skills, sonar-like ears, and spacial perception...

To the sick people who like to shoot Fruit Bats "for fun" during the day (when they are hanging upside down in a tree, fast asleep), I have this message:

May the fleas of a thousand camels, donkeys, and hedgehogs forever infest your arse, and may Mosquitos and Cockroaches forever invade your bedroom every night!

I wanted to build a bat box/s but my wife was not too keen

My wife rescued a baby bat from the pool yesterday morning, which was desperately trying to cling to a ball.

She sensibly googled what to do. The advice was definitely not to release during the day and never release on the ground as they need to "fall" from something high in order to fly. She kept it in a bag in the cool of the house until evening and we were both overjoyed at dusk last night when she released it. After a few seconds to get its bearings, it happily flew off, hopefully back to it's family.

Beautiful bat story, Royal (and wife), thanks for taking care of that little darling, both of you!

Yes, well done both on checking what to do, and successfully keeping it until the evening..

Watching them fluttering up and down right now, between our house and the M1, north to south and back. Beautiful creatures... If there were a couple of bats roosting in my bedroom (with the top window open as always, so they can get in and out), it would not bother me at all...

I must admit that if we had bats getting into the roof through the tiles I would not be bothered in the slightest.
But I don't think my wife would be so pleased.
We are all different..

I assume you mean outside your house?

We have them flying round inside our house on occasions here in Shropshire.
Not too relaxing when you are sitting watching TV at night!!

Outside or inside, I think they're lovely little creatures, totally harmless. I worked in a very prestigious hotel shortly before retiring, it was an historic house, with bats living in the roof space. Everyone knew that they were there, and protected.

Sorry I'm confused, why do they bother you when watching TV ?

Jackie- I think JB means that the bats aren't fluttering in and out of his loft, but in the same room in which he's watching TV, LOL!

It's a definate distraction wondering where it will settle next, not to mention the risk of a splat of bat poop across your nice 50" plasma screen...

Well, only three times this summer.

On the last occasion, we were away on the Welsh coast, it was 11pm and my phone rang. It was the 'alarm monitoring company'!
DD2 went round to check and was 'dive-bombed' by a bat!

Now do you know why I dislike them?

PS ... AL, it's only a 40" TV!!!
