Car advice, Buying or selling privately.

Hi all, after a bit of advice with regards to private car sales. I have always previously dealt with car dealers, who have dealt with all the formalities, however I now feel it may be best to try and sell my current car privately, in order to possibly get a better price, and also leave all options open for the next purchase.

My question is, what needs to be done in the case of a private sale to officially change the ownership of the car, do seller and buyer both have to go to a govt office somewhere? what documentation is required? is proof of payment for the car needed?

Any help appreciated, thanks

Al

Yes you can go to the transport department or better the One Stop, Citizens advice place in Butcher Boy Rd.
The buyer needs to be insured for the car before they will exchange ownership.
If its a duty free car that needs to be sorted prior to the sale also

We sold our car before returning to the UK. We all met at our insurer's office, they paid cash, we each completed the necessary documents, we handed over car, they insured the car there and then and drove off, simple.
