Anybody know what this is?

I was just processing some gopro footage from a recent trip through the forest, for a forthcoming blog.

The GoPro records in 10 minute chunks. I had just opened the second chunk. In this clip, we had parked by a Venetian bridge and gone to have a look, so there was not a lot to see on the gopro footage. However, I was puzzled because for some reason the gopro had put a little logo in the top right of the screen, or so I thought.

Of course, the goPro had done no such thing, and fast forwarding proved this. So what was the logo thing? Well I took a still from the video and have posted it below. I have enlarged the object I first mistook for a logo.

Is there any reason why a can such as this, with holes cut in the sides, should be hanging from a high up branch in the middle of the woods?

My guess is an insect trap.

What is the white rectangular object just above the ground on the younger tree left of frame and centre? Am I correct in saying that your mystery can is top right in your photo?

It could be a device to assist somebody with an air rifle to adjust / align their telescopic sight. But that's only a guess!

A Coke can?

It certainly looks like a coke can to me, and yes, it is the thing in the top right. My question, is why is a coke can with it's sides partially stripped back, hanging high from a tree?

The thing on the left is just a sign.

That would be a difficult climb up the tree to attach the can.

Thanks, Dom- but a sign saying what? Maybe it has some relevance to the nearby coke can dangling higher up nearby?

Just a thought, but could it be watering hole for small birds, I wonder? The peeled back sections allowing rain water to be collected in the can via the open holes, as well as providing perches for our little feathered friends...

Cheers- AL :)

It looks like a whirlybird bird scarer http://www.gapphotos.com/images/WebPrev ... 303599.jpg. The can sits on top of a cane and spins in the wind.(maybe a strong wind sent it up the tree).

Maybe this whirlybird's spinning 'blades' were so efficient, it took off like a drone?

But why would anyone want to scare birds away in the middle of a forest? Or perhaps it descended from a local fruit farm, growing cherries, apricots and suchlike, with your strong wind theory?

Do localized tornadoes ever occur in the Paphos region? Cheers- AL :?
