My guess is that this is related to heat ageing of the tyres. They may have plenty of tread left, but if the rubber hardens due to the Cyprus heat, you will be able to see hairline cracks in the tyre wall. From an MOT inspector, who told me why my car had failed!

Costas also told me this and showed me the cracks in the tyre walls.

We experienced this some time ago before we moved here permanently & were only visiting a coupleof times a year. There was plenty of tread on the tyres but they were very old & subsequently, we noticed that they were starting to crumble!

Generally speaking, this means that any tyre that’s five years old – or older – should be replaced even if it’s got sufficient tread depth.

Me neither Lincoln... Perhaps go to another MOT station without taking your car in and ask there.
I use the 'Space' one on Polis road opposite Lidl. I have never had any problems there. A recent 'fail' on a part, but that is OK.. Afternoons are quieter and they shut for lunch..

Surely what's most important is whether it is safe or not?
Regarding MOT centres, the directory has some:

Surely this is an advisory visible check on the MOT list, to see if the tyre walls are cracked due to long term exposure to the sun? If you always park under a shaded carport, or underground garage perhaps, there should be no problem, I would have thought?
