Polemi Pavements

Pavements are being installed in "downtown Polemi" much to the upset of local shop-keepers and Cypriots. Not to worry though, because although much yellow paint and white/black check will be applied the local police will take no action. Every Tassos, Dimitris and Haralambos in Polemi has a double cab, so mounting the pavement is second nature.

A similar scheme was installed out side the school last September. It works like this - first come to collect kids parks on the zig-zag lines right up to the zebra crossing. Late comers mount the pavement obscuring the double yellow lines. The lolly pop lady weaves between the parked cars, mistress of all she surveys. All this while the sports field parking remains empty. Parking rules cannot be enforced because the families of council members, police officers, teachers and just about every prominent citizen are illegally parked up. So this quite expensive road improvement was a complete waste of time and village funds.

The Polemi high street pavements will help cut down on parking by those foreigners with low slung sports cars. You are going to have to walk a bit because you are expected to park in the square a good half mile away.
Quite right too - they should have bought a double cab.

One of the contractors has been heard to say they'll be back in 2 years to dig it up as the layout is wrong.

Well that would be 23 months longer than the Tomb of the Kings Road lasted before they dug that up again.

 As I have witnessed that most of the Cypriot locals in Polemi walk down the middle of the road anyway, surely these so called pavements must be for parking twin cabs on?
