In our experience last August, it was a lot quieter, but you could still buy stuff from places like Paphos Home Market etc. We got some nice big mirrors installed and fitted from these people:
https://www.paphoslife.com/directory/en ... and_mirror
The only place we found that completely shut for the whole month was a UK owned one. The owner escaped the heat by flying back to Britain for the month. Most other places just took a bit longer for delivery.
You will also find that if you have aircon switched on, the delivery guys might loiter for longer than strictly necessary, and gravitate towards the unit. Who can blame them?

My apologies - just called in and asked. Paps in Polis are indeed open tomorrow from 0700 until 2100, though you wouldn't believe that from the queues there today. Anyone would think Armageddon was about to descend.
We've been overrun by Nicosians on holiday here. Good for local businesses but bad for local residents! Ho! hum!...2 weeks of chaos then back to sleepy Polis life again.

With nothing else really better to do, inquisitiveness got the better of me. So I did a Bing search (as I don't let google anywhere near my machine these days) for 2017 Cyprus Public Holidays.
August 15th- Assumption Day
Further search needed to find out what Assumption Day is all about... Wikipedia tells me that it's a deeply religous (and dogmatic) Roman Catholic celebration of the day that virgin Mary (mother of Jesus) died, and God assumed her into Heaven.
Considering the ancient schism between the Roman Catholic and the Eastern Orthodox doctrines, isn't it strange that they both observe the same religious festival on the same day each year?
I just queried the Aug 15 date with my daughter (who lived in southern France for four years until quite recently) and she confirmed that France basically shuts down for Assumption Day tomorrow as well. But not in UK. Nor Hungary (which is mainly RC, which is rather odd?)
Cheers- AL )

Mary being assumed into heaven is not biblical doctrine - you won't find it anywhere in the bible.
Like so many other things, It's Roman Catholic/Greek Orthodox 'tradition' which asserts that this is what really happened.
But hey! Who cares? It's a Public Holiday!

...On two days last week our guys were working in 38-40C heat in Nicosia.
Hope you have them equipped with cool water to drink, along with salt tablets, Lloyd!
