What you can't really appreciate from pictures of that double bridge is how low the wall is, and how far the drop down. I'm ok looking over it myself, but I hate it when my wife or daughter does.

Which reservoir / dam is that, Lincoln? It looks reasonably full...

That reservoir is indeed pretty full. Much more so than it normally is. It will feature in a soon to be published blog, and I will look up the name there. It is the one just past Kelefos Bridge though, if you can't wait.

In order to transfer the water of this dam (Arminou dam)via pipe to Limassol ( Kouris Dam) they have to keep the water level quite high....

Looks to be the Diarizos resevoir (and river), about 8km west of K. Platres and a 2km north east of Arminou, thanks to your Kelefos Bridge clue (and Bing Maps).
Perhaps take your fishing gear with you, Dominic, for a tasty barbecue fish supper later?

Actually, Max, I've just thought of something that might be of photographic and geological interest for you, with some souveniers to take home. Not too far from you, either! We're talking about exposed Crystals / Quartz again, my friend...
Head down through Episkope as if you're driving up the other side of the valley to Nata. But when you reach the main road up from Ayia Vivara to Amargeti and beyond, hang a left and continue uphill (ie: don't go to Nata).
After passing through Axylou and Eledio villages (watch your speed!) you'll now be approaching Amargeti. Watch out for a large hill on your right, just before reaching Amargeti, and park up somewhere safe. Take a wander around that hill. I think you will be amazed at what you find!
Perhaps another Max blog in the making? A nice cold Keo awaits you in Amargeti village itself (the other side of the main road, a hundred metres or so further up). Maybe even a nice Cypriot snack?

Alan, these formations are Gypsum. I did a Blog about it a couple of month ago but did not publish it as I think members are getting tired of so many similar Blogs about minerals. As this Blog is a round trip of ca 50 km to visit 4 different sites it is too hot at the moment anyhow...

Max, from where you live to Amargeti and back, a round trip of 50km? You're pulling my leg, LOL!
From what I personally saw in this area, it looked more like quartz to me. Like a frozen waterfall issueing out of the hillside, glistening in the sun... I brought a small 3" sample back with me, that still rests in our back garden to this day!

Hi Al,
I used to teach first year geology students the subject of mineralogy - one aspect of minerals other than colour, shape etc. is hardness.
Gypsum is very soft - you can scratch it with your fingernail. Quartz on the other hand is very hard - harder than steel. In Switzerland, most students would have a pocket knife with them, if you can scratch the blade with a mineral looking like quartz, then it probably is quartz (hardness 7, knife hardness 6; whereas gypsum is 2). Diamond is hardest at 10. Talc, the softest, is used as baby powder.

You can go to your garden now, well equipped with a Swiss army pocket knife which you hopefully possess, or as a minimum with your fingernails (as I believe it is gypsum that you have collected), and do this simple check

The season is more likely in Autumn as the falling leaves show after a good wet Winter. A very nice pic from a very nice website

Ah, is that picture copyright? I ask because I had a takedown notice regarding a quiz recently, so I need people to not post copyright pictures without permission. Unless of course, it was your pic in the first place.

It isn't a place to see, it's a website. I am sure if they promote Paphos Life on their website I would be happy to reciprocate in some way though.

Dominic, it is open to use off the web, not as far as I can see water marked or copyrighted, if you wish to remove that lovely picture then do so, but really there is no need. In all the time of CL I was never asked to remove one picture from the web at any time! posted by any members.My thoughts are they are not posted for any gain.
That shot of that bridge has been posted once before on PL and several times over the years on CL, never had any problems at all.
