Electricity saving measures in this heat...

Inspired from different posts about car air-cons I want to give some advice how one can save a lot of electricity, also having more comfort immediately:
You need only two things: a very strong portable fan and a indoor/outdoor thermometer (weather station)
Very early in the morning when the outdoor temperature is much cooler than indoors you place the fan in front of a open sliding door and switch on. You leave one or two windows on the opposite direction open. As soon as the outdoor temperature starts to be higher than indoors switch off and close the house completely. This way the indoor temperature can drop as much as 8 C, depending the outdoor temperature. You can now switch on air-cons if you like which are now using much less energy with the lower indoor temperature than before...
Important is not to forget the time and check your thermometer... and you need a really strong blower fan ( >150 W)

Probably a stupid question, but..... are you blowing the hot air OUT, by positioning the fan inside the house and facing towards the door? Therefore pulling cooler air in from the open windows on the opposing wall? Or, are you blowing the cooler air IN, by putting the fan outside, and blowing the air inwards and through the house towards the opposite, open windows?

Is not a stupid question, perhaps it was not clear enough how I explained it. Fact is that the blower is indoors in 1 m distance from the opening, blowing the hot air out and cold air is sucked in at the same moment. I open the windows NOT facing NE, as when the Sun comes up it will be quickly too warm from this side, to have the positive effect.

Thank you Max. This may also be useful here in the UK, as it's been very warm. Our very insulated house never cools down at night, so it is often several degrees cooler outside but impossible to sleep inside. I shall try this idea in the evenings and see if it helps me get some kip! I have spent a few night downstairs, on a mattress in front of an open sliding door - it was bliss. Sadly no hedgehogs walked by.....

I would have thought both methods work. Depending from which direction there is any outside breeze would depend upon which method should be used. If there is no outside breeze then go with cyprusmax47 method.

So this morning was no chance to get cool air in the house as the outdoor temperature 5.20 am was 29.8 c
but this happens only occasionally in my place. Most of the time the spread is high enough to achieve the goal...

I have been doing this for many years in our bedroom at night, fan in front of an open door or window, works very well as we do not like AC running while sleeping, it just dries out your body.
Do give this a try.
31c at 6am today with wall to wall sea mist!

Does it work if you haven't got a sliding door?
