Fresh fish at the beach again: Sargus (white seabream)

Some members perhaps already know that every Saturday I treat myself with fresh fish at lunchtime right at the beach of Timi. In the past I posted about delicious Baracuda, then I had Barbounia (red mullet) and this time it was Sargus (my favorite) which is white seabream. The most important thing eating fish is that it is just caught and not laying around in the fridge for days. Indicator are the eyes which have to be shiny and stand out. So I don't order from the menu but go inside the premises and have a look at the fish fridge. In this place I get always offered the fish which is just caught without asking which type. It was really delicious again.
First pic shows the fridge with a wide variety of fish:
This is the platter with Sargus (look the eyes!!)
Served with village salad, tahini, olives, kapari, sea salt, potatoes...
and a nice fresh wind was welcoming in this heat yesterday

I'd never heard of kapari, but a Bing search told me that it's baby caper stems, pickled in red wine vinegar, yum yum!
Do they get their fish from the local fishermen, Max, or some sort of wholesale fish market (like Billingsgate in London), I wonder?
I always look forward to viewing your Saturday lunch reports- thanks for sharing!
Cheers- AL

You can see how the kapari looks at pic no 2... home made of course. They buy from local fishermen but have also their own boats as the table cloth tells you in Greek language, screenshot pic on the left: "We serve fresh Cypriot fish from our own fishing boats" ( apó tis dikés mas varkes ) I did not mention before that this Sargus (white seabream) likes to stay on this stretch of beach where the river Xeros with sweet water enters the sea. We went to this place, Filiotis, on Sunday based on Cyprusmax's recommendation. The setting is tremendous and you would not know it was there, right on a beach as well. Had the Calimari and it was up there with the best I have had. The service was very good, and the four of us all agreed that the location was outstanding. I think we will become regulars here.

I try to avoid to eat Sunday's there, as it is too busy for me. A lot of Cypriots come to dine which large family as far away as Nicosia. From time to time they have also a "party" with a lot of people arriving at the same moment. Always ask the week before if there is a party pending...
Saturdays not only the variety of fresh fish is bigger but everyone has more time for you. The ideal situation is when there are 8-12 cars parking...

With all your recommendations for Filiotis, Max, not to mention the new added regular custom this is bringing in for them, it shouldn't be too long before you are made an Honourary Member of Staff there, and enjoy a nice 10% discount, LOL!
But, truth be told, you are too nice a guy to even give them the slightest hint of what you are doing on PL to increase their footfall. Restaurant recommendations have always been a minefield on the Cyprus forums, one man's meat being another man's poison, and so on...
You have stuck your neck out with this one, and I respect and admire you for that! I haven't seen a single contradictory report since you began your Saturday Lunch @ Filiotis Fish Tavern, Timi Beach blogs, only nice comments (and more reviews, like Yogi above)...
They indeed have a huge chiller display for an equally huge selection of fish! What is your modus operandi for future Saturdays, may I ask? A different type of fish each week, until you've tried them all and gone full circle, perhaps? So far we've seen delicious-looking Barracuda, Red Mullet, and White Sea Bream. Can't wait to see what you pick this coming Saturday...

I have my lunch every Saturday since years in Filiotis and I am of course every time more than welcome. I am not looking for any discount but I am happy that my village salad is much larger than standard and has got more different typical Cypriot ingredients (garlic, coriander, celery, rucola, purslane, louvana, just what is in season.) Also I get automatically my Cypriot coffee and with the dessert variety on top Mahalepi (Libanese pudding)
On the other hand I always come up with some presents from my garden with things they don't grow. (sage, thyme, oregano...etc)
I am sure there are people not happy with the place in the past or future specially when they arrive on a Sunday or after some bad and windy weather when the fish selection is limited.
I never plan anything in advance as I don't know which fish is just caught and available. There are times you will get FRESH Cypriot calamari (October) or fresh King prawns from the area and then I will have it. As I normally eating alone I cannot order Fish Mezze (minimum 2 pers.) which is another speciality many Cypriot families having there. It is much too much food for 1 person and when something tastes nice I cannot resist to eat it all,

with the result I don't feel well.
So you have to wait and see - like me - what will happen next Saturday

We went today mainly to catch the breeze and to eat.
Have been before but never tried the fish.
The breeze was wonderful so much so that hubby said he was cold!
Always a good sign a lot of locals eating. I thought that 2.30pm would be early for them. We then found out they close in the afternoon till 6pm to 6.30pm
I choose the Yoppa- 5 little fish cooked to perfection. Never seen this type of fish before. The chips have got to be the best on the Island.
Lovely service and great views-only 3 planes flew overhead while we were there.
We got a free platter of mixed fresh fruit which was tasty and nice to get.
It is on our list to go again and take other people now the weather is so hot.
Thanks Max for your initial report. Yes it did make me want to go again. Sorry I don't post photo's - mainly because I do not know how to.
