Extended car warranties

What do forum members think about these cars with 7 year warranties? I think they are a double edged sword. Cars, for the most part now days, are pretty reliable, and these companies have you over a barrell with the servicing whilst under warranty. We were shocked at being asked to pay €76 for a scheduled oil change, especially as all they did was a top up of 1 litre! A friend of ours bought a brand new car that turned out to be a "lemon". The company was less than helpful and refused to change it. He exchanged it for a different make eventually but lost a considerable amount of money as a second hand exchange. This is here in Cyprus.

We bought a second hand car from a big dealers, with a warranty.. We had a problem with the gearbox, and took it back to the garage. They tested it out and said there was No Problem. On the way back home the gearbox had the same fault..
I would say that warranties are only as good as the Garage that you buy from..
Again, another car was subject to a recall. The problem was fixed, only to reappear again. This time I took it to a different garage who said the original faulty parts had NOT been changed..
Buy from someone you trust or use a garage that you trust..
Trev..

Bought a new Skoda here with 5 yr warranty, had it serviced by a different garage. Had a problem which Unicars fixed under warranty even though I chose not to use them for servicing.
Incidentally 4 LTRs of the correct oil alone cost €65 ... Plus labour and filter to change it.
Oil isn't cheap for modern cars these days but does last longer.....

I also bought a new car from Unicars a VW, which had a three year warranty, and it was made most clear to me, the warranty only applied as long as I had it serviced with them, it seems you got lucky.
