First time .... (pic)

A clear sign that we are having a water problem this year when a fox is so thirsty that it is not afraid to come to my pool late morning to have a drink...
It had even no problem when I opened the sliding door to get the pic done !!!!
Foxes appear every year at nighttime from the valleys down below in order to get some chickens from my landlord's cages, but to come up in daytime, just for some old pool water is a clear sign that we are having a drought in the Paphos hinterland....

That is worrying, poor foxes and other wildlife.
I am envious though that you got to see one up close and get a photo. The few times I have seen a fox they've just been quickly running across the road.

Last time I got photos from foxes was 2018, however in the wild, here at their home with the mother (father)....ca 250 m away from me.

Even though we lived in the hills, we never saw a fox in ten years.

Just for you, Ams, the next day the male fox appeared at my garden and I got him just after it was drinking in the pool and now on his way out....

This is one I took years ago in our back garden back in England. Given that foxes ate a lot of my pets when I grew up, I consider them to be vermin. This one however, is rather cute.

Oh bless it, how sweet is that.
Foxes ate your pets?

Oh yeah. Rabbits, guinea pigs. They even got a chicken that adopted us in Cyprus. We named it Peepers, and it kept our rabbit company for weeks. It roosted in our of our thick hedges, and grew big enough to ward off any interest from the cats. One morning though, all that remained was a big bunch of feathers.

Sorry Dominic, I'm confused now.
Did you lose pets in the UK, Cyprus or both?

Both. In the UK it was rabbits and guinea pigs. Peepers was Cypriot.

Well, last year my landlord lost ALL his 15 chickens within 2 days and this year after drinking at my pool the female fox went straight to the shed with the pigeons and killed within 1/2 hour, 12 of them....
My phone call, warning him about the fox came too late.

Sad, but like all living things, they need to eat to survive.

Never saw them when we lived in Cyprus but on returning to the UK and living in the country they are numerous.
One, in particular, calls every night, scratching at the front porch door to let us know he is waiting for his food.

I assume the pigeons were trapped in the shed and couldn't just fly away
