By far the lowest rainfall since 10 years in a January...

So, at my place I measured 30 mm/m2 of rain the whole of January which is extremely low if I compare with last years result of 90 mm/m2 which was also not that much.

A lot of people, also in the Government expected that after Jan/Feb rains the dams will recover from their lows, but slowly also they are getting worried finally.

Here the stats from the Government site, showing the low levels of the dams and the inflow in the last 10 years (at the bottom)

Of course it was not helpful for the situation that the only Paphos desalination plant at Kouklia area burnt down and the Mavrokolymbos Dam at Peyia had to be emptied to finally repair leaking valves. (they were leaking already several years..)

There is obviously no short term solution for a water shortage if this summer comes early and spring rains are like last year. (none)

But you can read yourself what PafosPress found out about the difficult situation.... (translation: click bottom left!!)

And, as a bonus (not), the night temperatures will fall in areas below 0 C on Thursday and Friday, which is not really good for the blossom of almond and fruit trees which are so early this year...

So, yesterday whole day and night I measured 3mm/m2 !!!!! of rainfall. If next weeks rain is like that, it won't help the levels in our dams...

I just remember, my landlord was telling me that there is a country saying, when on the first two days in February is very sunny, there will be very little rain in that month.
I was laughing about, however today is the 16th and so far I measured only 5 mm/m2 and I wonder if this country saying will be confirmed end of the month...

There is a little rain forecast tomorrow for Polemi, but only around 1mm. The same again for Tuesday.
But it is forecast to get colder by Friday, with zero degrees in the early hours of Friday morning

The latest update on my weather forecast sites shows -1c in the early hours of Friday morning and the same for Saturday. It even shows SNOW (3cm) for Polemi during the daylight hours on Saturday..

Well, yesterday and this morning I measured 5mm/m2 of rain, at my place and I don't believe that little bit makes a difference in dam water levels.
Forecast: the next few days at least until Monday, cold air mass dominates our area, with very little or no rain expected...  perhaps some snow in the hinterland and windy.
