A section of the roof at a well-known department store in Paphos collapsed earlier today, leaving three people with minor injuries.

The incident occurred under circumstances currently being investigated by officials.

Emergency services, including fire brigade units, police, and the Department of Labour Inspection, swiftly arrived at the scene to commence investigations into the serious incident.

It remains unclear whether the partial roof collapse is related to ongoing renovation work in parts of the building.

Authorities are continuing their inquiries into the cause of the collapse.

Neon Mall. We arrived at the mall just after it happened. Counted ourselves lucky as I was going to nip into Superhome for a pool testing kit. When we came out of Lidl the ambulance and police had arrived and a stretcher was being wheeled to the store. Hope those injured are OK and make a good recovery.
It was the false ceiling that came down. Most of the other shops do not have one. Whether the ceiling dates back to the old Orphanidies or whether it is new I don't know.

Just got back home from Lidl's next to Super home.
There is a staff member sitting out side the Super home store, I asked when the store will reopen and she could not tell me when it will open.
I Think there taking down all the suspended roofing.
There was about 4 man lifts out side in the car park and men there.

My wife was there today. She took a photo for our Paphos Chat Facebook Group. They originally didn't want her too, but she explained who we were was and that we could help get the word out etc. So they relented, and also told her that they are due to reopen on Tuesday.

That seems very quick to make sure that every piece of the false ceiling is safe and not like the pieces that fell down.
If you see the staff wearing hard hats... beware .. only joking

Just found the picture Dominic's wife took. It looks as if they have removed all of the false ceiling. Most of the stores in Neon Mall haven't got a false ceiling. Below, picture from facebook on Paphos Chat.

I went to Superhome today hoping that it was open. Unfortunately it wasn't and there was work still going on inside. The staff sitting outside said it was hoped it would open on Friday. They also gave me a voucher for 15% off once it was open again. I gather anyone turning up can get one, so off you go.
