Immovable Property Tax
Immovable Property Tax
A friend of ours heard that the IPT yearly charge is no longer required,is that true? Mind you they have never paid it but we do each year and nothing has been said. Can someone put us straight please
Re: Immovable Property Tax
Correct it finished a few years ago.....
But for those who never paid it they will catch up with you,say if you go to sell your property...
We were informed of this when putting ours into a trust...

Re: Immovable Property Tax
That’s all well and good but where has our money gone then all these last few years - a little brown envelope maybe?!!!
Re: Immovable Property Tax
IPT was abolished in 2017 so who are you paying this tax to ?
Are you sure it is IPT and not some other charge ?

Re: Immovable Property Tax
also now there is a cyprus refugee tax of 0.4% sale price of your house when you decide to move on.
Re: Immovable Property Tax
Just looked on the receipts dated from 2017 that we have been given each year from the Peyia Municipality and all it says is “taxes” nothing else and along by “particulars” just . . . . .?
Do you think we’ve been “had”

Re: Immovable Property Tax
Please explain IPT tax?
Is it the one you never got a bill from Peyia Municipality and was around 12 euro for each share on a title deed? You had to take your Title Deed up or the previous year paid receipt to pay.
Yes paid 0.4% refugee tax on selling our property this year.

Happy to be back on the Island!
Re: Immovable Property Tax
Yes, that’s right, we have never had a bill sent, just went up each year and paid taking our title deeds.
Re: Immovable Property Tax
Locally we pay an annual Municipality IPT charge based upon the value of your property at the Land Registry records. Each person showing a share on the Title Deeds receives an individual bill. Should you try to sell the property you need a certificate from your municipality that all annual tax bills have been paid, or, the sale will not be permitted.
Re: Immovable Property Tax
This tax was abolished in 2017 and we received 2 cheques for 400 euro for the amounts we had previously paid.
Re: Immovable Property Tax
That’s very interesting Jonjo, now we are in a quandary as to pay this year. All our neighbours are still paying yearly and nobody has had a refund!!! What is going on!!!
Re: Immovable Property Tax
We finally got our deeds last year and our Community Council Secretary told us we would now have to pay a property tax to the council each year. Only a relatively small amount. This year will be the first full year we have paid it.
Also, you sure you're not confusing the payment with your annual community charge for refuse collection, street lighting etc?

Re: Immovable Property Tax
Why don't you visit or call the
Community office and ask what the charge is for ?

Re: Immovable Property Tax
We aren’t getting confused with the bill for refuse etc. that comes as a proper bill to every household but we have never had a bill for IPT. Once we had our title deeds way back now, we have paid yearly but through the grapevine have been told that was scrapped in 2017 so where does it go? The Municipality staff are always so helpful!!!!
Re: Immovable Property Tax
There was an IPT that was finished in 2017, this had to be paid at the government offices in Paphos, we only paid it once before it was scrapped and it was based on a % of our title deeds value of the time.
Some village or municipalities also charged a property tax, and some had stopped charging.
Yours may have not have done this, however, insist that they give you a receipt with Property Tax written on it.
If I was really bothered about it I would consult a lawyer taking past receipts to show them and asking if it was legal to charge it.
It reminds me of Municipalities charging for dog licences usually around 25 euros, some villages charge some don't, its not worth worrying about, but it would be interesting to know if certain households with many dogs pay 25 euros for each one of them, I doubt it.

Re: Immovable Property Tax
In Peyia it is known as "Town Tax" paid mid-August time each year to the Municipal Finance Dept in cash, not standing order for some strange reason. No advanced notice is given to pay or you being in arrears. Only paid by those residents with full title deeds, another reason many only have the Land Title Deeds. You do get a receipt. And will prevent the sale of your property if in arrears when selling. It's a small amount for each name on the title deeds, gives the Mayor and councillors decent lunches, no doubt.
Re: Immovable Property Tax
I’ve been to the finance department a few times and we’ve our full title deeds since 2010 but we’ve never been asked to pay a town tax to Peyia - just the refuse and water charges via direct debit.
For info, the IPT was 76 euros for both of us per annum until it was abolished and refunded.
