What is going on with the lack of drinking water here in lower Peyia? It seems most days now it’s cut off in the afternoon but nothing this morning, it’s still off. I cannot believe with all these new buildings going on that this problem will go away - only the water!!!! There seems to be no forward thinking in Cyprus, like what happened to the main sewage system that the EU gave money for and nothing happened, where did it go?!!!!

They've always had water problem in Peyia, in times gone by it was the poorest village in the area for that very reason and Kathikas was the wealthiest. Since it has been far too over developed. The annoying thing is that the hotels in Coral Bay will be finel

Yes of course the hotels always come first,that’s where the money comes from!!! Doesn’t matter about us residents who pay our bills and rely on the wet stuff for household jobs, does it?

Chloraka is in the 10th week of daily water cuts in certain areas.
Tala also experiences water shortages and cuts quite often with those in some areas having to wait longer than others for their tanks to refill.
Only so much water available - ''When it's gone it's gone.''

Are there specific reasons for the water supply problems in these 2 villages?

About the only things they can do are:

Ban more building work
Ban private pools
Build a new dam. There is a valley between Peyia and Akoursos.
Build a new desalination plant on the Akamas

Which would you prefer?

You could fine people for washing down property frontages.
Ban baths from new builds, showers only.

Both areas have reservoirs/tanks which are filled from Paphos mains supply.

Restrict the number of us tourists who visit the island. An issue echoed by some despite us paying a tourist tax to visit this beautiful island

To be fair, if they are tourists, they aren't necessarily bothered about being sparing with water. Maybe education may help.

Are you sure about that? I thought Peyia got its water from Kannaviou Reservoir. The pipe runs near our house. A few years back a bulldozer burst it and there was a whopping great fountain you normally only see in cartoons.

On one of the announcements from Chloraka Community council they informed the residents that due to a shortage of water supplied from Paphos they were on a reduced supply and so were reducing the water pressure. Chloraka has a tank for the tourist area and a tank for the residents.

Tala Municipality in one of their announcements asked residents in the upper area to conserve water as the lower area was still without water because the tank was still being filled.
