Looking at my thermometer which showed 34 C at 10.30 this morning I was thinking to stay indoors in air-conditioned rooms and cook at home, but then I got a phone call from my favourite fish tavern at Timi Beach, telling me they have fresh Sea Bream just caught...

So, i changed my mind and drove down to the beach from my place in the Paphos hinterland thinking it would perhaps be cooler at the sea front.

But far from it! When I arrived there, the temperature was even higher with 36 C and very high humidity... no wind at all.

The next surprise was the size of the fish, which for one person was a little over the top, weighing nearly 500 gr.
Image

As one can see the fish was harpooned, which suppose to be a better taste...

So, after a short while my starters arrived: village sourdough bread, cold red wine, village salad, sea salt, lemons which I squeeze into the salad.

Well, my village salad was also very generous and it was hard to mix it without making a mess at the table

10 minutes later I had finished half of it and at the bottom all the nice green stuff I like too much (garlic, selery, parseley, fennel, lettuce, cucumber...)
Image

I just managed to finish the salad and some bread and wine when the main dish arrived.

I must say it was hard work eating all that fish after my starters in this heat.... but I managed it at the end...
Image

However the chips I could not finish all of them (and I love their chips) as there is also coffee and dessert waiting for my stomach.

So dessert (Tsipopitta) and Greek coffee from the house i also ate and after 2 hours lunch I rushed home as a lot of people arrived, looking for empty tables. At home i needed 1 hour siesta for digestion and a cup of tea......

You raise an interesting question about siestas. When I have one, I just zonk until I wake up again. It could be anything from 30 minutes to 3 hours or so. Do other people do the same or are alarms involved?

Food looks lovely. Out of curiosity, why is harpoon-caught better than line or net?

When fish are harpooned, they die more or less the same moment. However when they are suffering for hours in a net before they are killed they have a lot of stress....(I got that info from fishermen.)

I just zonk out too, Dominic, usually in the chair after lunch with the aircon on low, for about half an hour. No alarm involved. Only in the summer months though, never in the winter as we're usually out and about.

After a lot of food at lunchtime I have always problems to stay awake in front of the TV, whatever program is on, i miss it. Sometimes more than one hour.
I must admit that most of my calories i get from food at lunchtime. It is my only big meal a day as i am still on time restricted fasting. (16/8)

Otherwise i would not cope p.e. with such large amount of fish and chips if i had 3 medium sized meals daily. The only bigger problem would be if i missed at 3.30 PM my last little snack before 16 hour fasting starts, because i am asleep...

So real siesta, i learned in Italy, was from 2-4.30 PM when i lived there for some years, long time ago.
