Another closed court hearing held in Cyprus Personally, I believe this man should be named as you never know if he has done this to others. If they see the name and the conviction, it may give others the courage to speak out knowing they were not the only ones. I applaud the bravery of the young lady for reporting this man. This would not have been an easy process for her. I hope she heals mentally and physically as this can be a long process which some never recover from, nor their families who were probably groomed along with the child. On a personal note, this happened to me over 40 years ago and I still I am mentally affected now.

The Limassol Permanent Criminal Court in a case of sexual abuse mentions hellish behavior against a minor by a 47-year-old defendant in its decision, the newspaper Phileleftheros and the journalist Ioanna Mandziepa reveal.

As philenews is aware, the Criminal Court, after a closed hearing, yesterday sentenced the 47-year-old to various prison terms of up to 5 years.

Further, according to the same information, the Court issued an order prohibiting the accused, for the next ten years, from offering services to children, frequenting places with children and staying in places adjacent to playgrounds.

The 47-year-old defendant was found guilty of 3 counts of sexual abuse of a child and one count of sexual harassment in violation of Article 7 of the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, following a hearing, as reported by Ioanna Mandziipa in report of Phileleftheros newspaper.

According to the shocking facts of the case, the 47-year-old defendant participated in sexual acts with the then 17-year-old minor, forcibly forcing her to perform various heinous acts.

The fact that the victim was 17 years old does not justify the serious and hellish behavior of the accused nor does it reduce the seriousness of the offenses he is facing, among other things, the Criminal Court points out in its decision.

I would call them a rapist rather than a paedophile. The age of consent in Cyprus is 17, according to a google I just did. In most of Europe it ranges between 14 and 16.

I'm not saying their sentence should be any less. But to imply that sex with a 17 year old makes you a paedophile is just plain wrong. It also softens the description somewhat, making the vileness of the crime seem a little less unacceptable.

Personally, I am happily married, so have no stake in this naming convention game. I just think details like this matter.

I believe the convicted person is not named in such cases to protect the identity of the victim.

That would certainly make sense if it was a relative, which I believe is most often the case.
