Had enough with frequent power cuts? Solution...

Every year, specially in hot summer, there are a lot of power cuts at my area. These days I had already two of them, and I lost time when working on my computer. They were less than one hour, but even then, I was glad that I have spent some money last month in buying a power back-up.

The reason that I invested that money was that I have running 3 fridges (1 normal, 1 for wine, 1 freezer) and after the huge fire at Polemi/Lemona area with very long power cuts, I was worrying a fire could also happen near my place and the content of my fridges would be destroyed, specially my large freezer is full to the top with nice fish etc.

Also several times in a year, EAC cuts power for 6 hours when they had to work on the grid near the new highway to Polis, and this is too long to keep frozen food in good quality.

So, long explanation here my solution: I bought the Ecoflow Delta 2 battery backup generator (instead of a noisy petrol/diesel one) with a capacity of just more than 1 kW/h and a recharging time from AC of only 8o minutes.

One can run devices with max 2700 W, but also computer etc with the built-in sine wave inverter and use it also as an UPS.
Of course you can charge mobile phone, laptop etc etc.

It is also Wi-Fi and Bluetooth supported where you can adjust inputs/outputs and much more.

On top you can connect the battery also with power from the sun (solar modul) max 500 Wp and extend with that the capacity in daytime.

There is a possibility to buy a second battery with 2 kW/h capacity and increase the total capacity to more than 3 kW/h.

The unit is very handy, not large and with 12 kg not too heavy to transport.

Here a pic from the front with nice display, very bright.

and the backside with 4 AC outputs and Solar input

I ordered online from the Sony Shop Paphos, next to the Makarios Statue and must say they are working really professional...

I was busy in my kitchen with cooking and writing this post the same time, so I forgot one very important thing to mention: > 3000 cycles....

The battery is one of the newest generation of batteries, called LFP batteries. Tesla's newest cars using only that type now.

Here what Wiki has to say: Better aging and cycle-life characteristics

LFP chemistry offers a considerably longer cycle life than other lithium-ion chemistries. Under most conditions it supports more than 3,000 cycles, and under optimal conditions it supports more than 10,000 cycles. NMC batteries support about 1,000 to 2,300 cycles, depending on conditions.[6]

LFP cells experience a slower rate of capacity loss (a.k.a. greater calendar-life) than lithium-ion battery chemistries such as cobalt (LiCoO)

If you have a power cut, you must decide which machines you want to run and plug them directly into this generator when it happens, right? I think the old petrol/diesel generators are meant to kick in when the power goes. And they are linked to your whole house. You cannot use all your appliances at once, but you can pick and choose? Forgive my ignorance!

You are correct, this is how it meant to work.To connect the whole house with any generator is against the rules of EAC, however it would also work with this power pack if you add more batteries and connect perhaps a solar module with 500 Wp and your loads don't exceed the 2700 W at one time.

In the house you could have a multiple socket strip minimum 3000 W and connect several items with extension leads, again max. 2700 W at a time.

The old petrol/diesel generator would not supply sine wave electricity, hence problem with computer, perhaps fridge, air-con etc...

Further they would not work as an UPS as their kick in time is much to long and the computer is off in the meantime.

I had in the past the old generation generators, and whenever you desperately needed power they would not start after a long time standing in a corner, or have not enough fuel for them stored.

On a side note: 28 years ago, when I had a stand alone photovoltaic system along with windmills and >50 kW/h large batteries and there was a power cut, I was very happy that my house was the only one you could see in the night with all lights on and around, from Argaka to Polis full darkness. :D :D

Max, When we lived in Kamares area, a long while ago, my husband had a small petrol fueled standby generator. As you said, the first check was how much petrol, then a battle to start it! Then, the relief of plugging in the fridge, plus one lamp, maybe a standing fan..... then hoping the power cut wouldn't last longer than the fuel! Hoping a neighbour wouldn't complain about the noise....
Oh! Happy days.

This was before the arrival of solar power, pv to Cyprus, and the incredible changes this has brought about!

I'd feel more confident with a petrol/diesel generator because to run aircons you may well need more power/energy than an affordable battery will provide.
