Have any members had their windows and/or doors fitted with upgraded security locks?
Any info. or advice much appreciated, especially any recommendations for a firm known as "Pick-a-Lock", who have given us a quotation.
Many thanks in advance,
Jon.

Just before we went back to the UK last summer, we had an alarm system fitted by SAS. They arranged for Pick a Lock to replace all of our window locks and door locks with anti snap devices. Whilst we were away, quite a few neighbours had their sheds broken into. Think the criminals were looking for tools and bikes, but ours wasn't touched. Very pleased with both firms.

I’d second Anarita John’s recommendations based on personal experience.

You have an interesting topic. Has anyone encountered the concept of a saferoom in Cyprus, which is very popular in Israel?
I recently heard a story about a break-in where a woman and her child were upstairs. She was so scared that she locked herself in a room to keep them safe. It turns out that intruders broke into the house while there were people inside and stole everything they could from the first floor. That's why I thought about saferooms.

Probably a safe room is a bit of an overkill. We have security with SAS. On our remotes and phone apps there is a panic button, which we can press in an emergency. This will alert the control centre, based in Tala, operational 24 hours a day. I would imagine it also activates our alarm, and the noise from this should frighten off any would be burglars.

You have "The SAS" as your security, now that is overkill John.

Very good ast. However, when I came to Cyprus I reinvented myself, and my previous job was in MI6, so I need 24 hour protection. Also, I was Chief Education Officer in Rochdale, when I worked in education.
Serously though, SAS do a brilliant job. We have their first responders in our village. Their service is free to anyone, but, as we have an SAS alarm system, we can access them by pressing the panic button on our remote.

Yes, I once viewed a house built for my Russian neighbours in Kamares area where a strong room was incorporated in part of the foundations.

I was amazed when I visited Switzerland to see all the fallout shelters in their houses.

My first house I bought in Germany, 1974, had a fallout bunker for a family, which was ideal to store all kind of foods in summer. Its entrance door was 40 cm thick, massive concrete and difficult to open. It was just built, however the owner died, (Swiss) hence the price was reasonable....
