No water in our part of Chloraka. Enquiries have revealed that there is or (maybe was) a broken
pipe in the village. It was hoped that it would be fixed today. But there is a serious water shortage now on island.

Driving through the village earlier today I felt angry when I passed a-woman watering a few plants near the road, as well as the pavement, near her house with what looked like a fire hose with high water pressure!

I've had no water either. Was about to post about it. Now that municipality seems closed who to ring about it?

Hi Polly,
Hopefully you have water now. My Roof tank filled up overnight so the water pressure was good today
But the reservoir is getting low due to the drought, so more water cuts may come.
There is a hose pipe ban too. Saw this info in the Cyprus Mail.

Friday 11am - Update on water situation in Chloraka

Chlorakas Community Council / Κοινοτικό Συμβούλιο Χλώρακας

The Community Council informs that due to a New Leak that has occurred in the pipeline, the water cut will continue until approximately 20:00 in the evening.
We receive hundreds of calls at the same time which is impossible to answer all at once.. We understand your indignation and the preciousness of water, but in no case did we want you to suffer.
The Synergy of plumbers have reset it 3 times and unfortunately there is a problem that superhumans are trying to solve.
These things happen, these are damages you do, you don't calculate when they occur and in no case was it planned for this and there was no announcement in advance as many of you asked us.
We ask the residents to show some more understanding, and we hope that it will come back as soon as possible.
Thank you very much for your patience and we apologize again for the inconvenience!

Yes, MM, the hosepipe ban was part of an article about water shortages I saw in yesterday’s Cyprus Mail. Bans on the use of hosepipes are quite normal when reservoir water levels are falling.
Cyprus goes through cycles re winter rain amountsAfter several rainy winters a drought follows. The article also said that officials are concerned as next winter could also have little rainfall.
Cyprus Mail 4/7/24 page 2 Re Drought continues: water ban in force, harsher fines possible.

Tala Council is advising its residents to water their gardens and that includes using irrigation systems once a week among other measures:

NOTICE

TO ALL TALA COMMUNITY RESIDENTS

DUE TO THE POOR RAIN WE HAD LAST WINTER, THE WATER SUPPLIES ALL OVER THE COUNTRY HAVE BEEN DRAMATICALLY REDUCED, WITH THE RESULT THAT WE ARE FACING INSUFFICIENT QUANTITIES AVAILABLE TO COVER ALL DOMESTIC NEEDS.

WE ARE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SUMMER PERIOD AND WE ARE ALREADY FACING PROBLEMS IN MANY AREAS. AS A RESULT:

- GARDEN WATERING MUST BE LIMITED TO ONCE A WEEK - this includes garden irrigation systems

- USE OF WATER FOR CAR WASH IS PROHIBITED AND WILL BE FINISHED

USE OF WATER FOR WASHING PATIOS AND PAVEMENTS IS ALSO PROHIBITED AND WILL BE FINED

HOSEPIPES SHOULD NOT BE USED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

TALA COUNCIL IS ASKING FOR YOUR HELP AND COOPERATION IN ORDER TO AVOID EXTREME MEASURES LIKE PROVIDING WATER ON A ROTATION BASIS.

Water finally restored this morning in Chloraka according to reports on Facebook.
Delays due to other problems encountered when installing a new mains pipe near Emba which took far longer than anticipated due to other issues.
