Paphos Life

Has anyone recently had a Hernia operation here in Paphos? Can you help me by sharing your experience and giving me some information?
I am thinking of going to Dr Economides at the Blue Cross Hospital.

Hi, Trev . I had Dr. Economides fix my double hernia way back in 2010 prior to Gesy . In the Blue Cross 4 days but everything has been OK since then . Just be careful when lifting in the future . Lefkes .

lefkes, thanks for that info.. I was hoping to be quicker than 4 days. Maybe techniques are a bit better and quicker now. Fingers crossed..

Hi, Trev , Maybe it is quicker now , I had the operation on a Friday, keyhole surgery ,rested in bed over the weekend and saw no doctor until Monday ,discharged on Tuesday. As it was a private hospital then a extra day in bed meant more profit .? Lefkes.

had my hernia operation at evangelismos last year
went in 4pm Friday left Saturday morning.
had a spinal block instead of a general anaesthetic.
was painful the following week and no driving for a bit.

Thankyou Andy, I have had another op less than 4 weeks ago with spinal block.. It is strange no legs for a while. But the no driving would be a problem for me where I live..

I haven't had the surgery in Paphos, but if you're getting a mesh, it might be helpful to look into potential risks. The FDA has issued warnings about certain types of mesh – this law firm has more information on that.

I too have heard of problems when mesh has been used in hernia ops. My friend's SIL had major problems with after pain, and slow healing. I warned my SIL before his op, but still mesh was used, he experienced a lot of pain, for a long time, (months) afterwards. He also could feel a 'lump', as if the hernia was still there.

Unsure of types used however.

I had a hernia op done privately by BUPA in the UK By a young surgeon and in the pre-op discussion he asked if i had heard of surgical mesh - I said no and he said good because we don't use it in my team - he went on to explain why which was bleeding, rejection and incision infection - The incision weeps for weeks anyway but you don't need infection - He said we will stretch and overlap the damaged tissue and multiple stitch it and the stitches will eventually dissolve and the repair should be ok and it is.
