It was clear on Tuesday and Wedensday that there was a lack of fire fighting aircraft as there was none for a long time over Choulou area.

Perhaps an idea for Paphos district would be not to have only one hub as it is right now at Paphos airport, and instead to built 2-3 bases in the hinterland with short runways just enough for firefighting planes to land.

It takes ages until the small yellow planes arrive from Paphos airport and the time they need to return for refilling chemicals there.
Different story for helicopters with water buckets as they can stay much longer in the area until they need fuel, they need just a reservoir nearby to work efficient.

But what we need in the short term are much more planes, owned by Forestry or Army as the weather changes also here in Cyprus with much higher temperatures early in the year and less rainfall which leads more likely to much more fires in summer.

And there is no let up on the hot weather. The car thermometer was registering 38 in Polit this morning and even back home in Polemi it is 37 in the shade.
Today's forecast shows 40 c by noon.

Trev, glad to see you are safe after the fire. We were thinking of all you hillbillies. We have visitors at the moment. Yesterday we went to Ladies Mile and it was 37c, but pleasant with a seabreeze. Today, in Anarita, 39c on the car thermometer when we went down to the supermarket at Mandria at 4pm. Our visitors sat outside tonight with their gin snd it was still hot.

It was also at my place the hottest yesterday with 40C midday and this morning 5 AM still 33C as I get wind from the mountains which is dry and hot.
However tomorrow we will see a end of this heatwave with much less temperatures all over Cyprus.

Yesterday saw 44 c in the shade and a ground temp of 69.3c in my courtyard.
You could not stop outside for long in that.
