If necessary, I think the EAC should be subsidized in order to be able to upgrade the grid, so it can manage an increase in renewable energy production. That would be money well spent as it will prevent blackouts.

Absolutely true! But the EAC has also been dragging its heels over the need to replace the old diesel generators at Dhekeleia which are burning heavy fuel oil which is causing massive air pollution. For this Cyprus is paying huge penalties to buy carbon credits. If these generators were replaced and the electricity transmission system were upgraded this would make a big difference
to the cost of electricity here.
