Animal Portraits

I recently entered a photograph of our dog Ruby into a competition draw for an animal portrait painting. Each entrant had to post their photo to a particular facebook page and insert some text about the nature and character of the animal.

My name and Ruby's photo were drawn out as the winners a week or so ago and today, I went to meet the artist at Morrison's supermarket in Cleveleys to collect the portrait.

Both me and my hubby really love it. The lady who painted it (Catherine) even caught on to the fact that Ruby has white whiskers only on one side of her face. We've no idea how that came about..... The original photo caught her eyes looking a bit glazed or filmy so Catherine said she had to improvise and she did a very good job of it.

Here's the photo I sent to her:

And this is me collecting the portrait this morning:

We're now considering whether to commission another portrait, this time of our old dog Indie, who crossed rainbow bridge just 2 days after my dad passed away last October.

Yes, it brought a tear to my eye when she unveiled it.....

We're definitely considering the Indie painting. She charges £65 and says it takes around 6 to 8 hours in total to get the painting finished and framed. Given I got the one of Ruby as a gift, it's a steal for both :-)
