Of course the military need to train. Imagine the consequences if they didn't.

If Ukraine did not give up their nuclear weapons beside their huge fleet they had, Russia would have thought twice to invade like they did now.

Interesting article in the press:

"Three decades ago, the newly independent country of Ukraine was briefly the third-largest nuclear power in the world.

Thousands of nuclear arms had been left on Ukrainian soil by Moscow after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. But in the years that followed, Ukraine made the decision to completely denuclearize.

In exchange, the U.S., the U.K. and Russia would guarantee Ukraine's security in a 1994 agreement known as the Budapest Memorandum."

No point in complaining! These military exercises with "friendly forces" happen every year. Sometimes twice. At least the Govt here warn us in advance. A few years ago they didn't bother to to this. The first walk I was asked to lead for a local walking group saw me lead the group into what turned out to be a military exercise. No previous public warning then.
We were on a near coastal path between Filiotis Taverna leading to Mandria. Saw it all! Military check points, tanks, rocket launcher and then fighter aircraft flying over head, low level...
When I had recce'd the route 2days earlier, all was quiet abd deserted!

I certainly feel a bit safer having Israeli jets flying around rather than say Turkish.

Don't know why people here moan about occasional military exercises in Cyprus. Military forces in countries the world over hold training exercises. The UK is no exception to this. Though some people who live under military low flying routes do complain sometimes.Specially when night exercises involve noisy jet aircraft.
However, in time of war, all this training yields results.
Years ago we had a gun shy Labrador, unusual in this breed. Our vet told us to give him half a junior asprin if it was very noisy from air craft or fireworks. He also suggested putting him and his dog bed, as far from windows as possible.ie under the stairs or in a walk-in cupboard or similar.
It worked , he fell asleep and appeared relaxed till it was all over..

Dee,

You're right, as much as some don't like it, you only have to see what Putin is doing, to know that military exercises are essential for our protection.
