The bill also provides a hefty penalty for those not bothering to pick up their dog's poop, according to Philenews. Specifically, the bill which is already ...

A good idea but is it workable in this country? What the article does not mention is how the dogs are kept. Picking up the poop is small fry compared with giving them adequate food and water in decent housing commensurate with the size of the animal.

This is a typical law that Cypriots knowing no action will ever be taken, personally I am a lover of dogs in general, like many I feel angry when irresponsible owners miss treat any animal but the real problems are not dog poop..Owners leaving their animals out on balconies and tied up in the backyard, only last night a dog howled most of the night while its owner was out late leaving the dog to disturb all and sundry,
all night! now this owner lives opposite a police man did this disturb him? no idea, as I think many Cypriots tune out this kind of disturbance, I only wish we could!
We have a rescue dog from a pup ( now 14), she never disturbs anyone because she is never left on her own....
Time to get this stopped once and for all....

Best start educating children at school in the right, kind and humane way to treat animals. It's probably too late to change this in older people who are too set in their ways.

Sadly Dee, most children copy the actions of their parents, and so animal cruelty goes on.

All very well having the usual pop at the way Cypriots are with animals, perhaps they should look closer to home, RSPCA 2021 report in the UK, they received 1,081,018 calls to the cruelty line, this includes 1,094 killings or 3 per day, 632 mutilations or 12 per week.

Animal cruelty is abhorrent, no matter where in the world it takes place. It is down to humans to stop it, and punish the perpetrators.
At least in the UK, the RSPCA take court action in cases of animal cruelty, I don't recall seeing many cases going to court in Cyprus.
Staffie, could you please explain why you consider it to be 'whinging', to discuss trying to stop animal cruelty?
