It woke me up around 3:30am here in Pissouri as I was dreaming about elephants passing by, and large cats scratching at and climbing the lemon tree outside my bedroom. Got out of bed pretty sure it was an earthquake, put on proper clothes and shoes to head outside and by the time I opened the door it was all over. I still wan't sure I hadn't imagined the whole thing until I read the news this morning.

My neighbour was telling me about the fierce and noisy thunderstorm and earth shake overnight, and was astonished I had slept through the whole thing! I heard or felt nothing, but then I was well into a lovely dream I was back in the Maldives, one of my favourite places, I guess nothing was going to spoil the dream.
Awful tragedy, the BBC are reporting more than 600 perished.
