It's terrifying, another person caught driving while under the influence of drugs. Car theft. No wonder the roads are such dangerous places.
How many of us expats were living in Cyprus before Cyprus joined the EU and before Paphos had easy access to the new highways then being built? With hindsight, I can remember how much safer Paphos was then?
Cyprus accession to the EU has brought many benefits, mainly financial. Loans and grants of money from the EU have vastly improved the standard of living and aminities. But it came at a cost, suddenly migrants legal and illegal have arrived in uncontrolled numbers and with it crime seems to have rocketed.

You come out with some good old fashioned Bolox, how can you blame the EU for the massive increase in migrants, this is being encouraged by Turkey giving then visas to come to Turkey then cross over to the occupied north of the island, as for roads being safer back in the day , yet more rubbish, anyone who was living here years ago and drove up the mountains on many dirt roads with cars hanging off the side of the narrow roads trying to pass each other, will be sighing after reading your farcical coments

I've only been here about two years so I can't talk about the past, but I don't think the dangerous roads are that way because of immigrants. I think that one's on the locals.

Does this case have anything to do with the EU or immigrants? It doesn't appear so, reading the article. Burning cars, along with shooting through people's windows, seems to be a traditional Cypriot 'business practice'! It's usually Cypriots doing it to other Cypriots.

I suspect a lot of the societal changes Cyprus has experienced would have occurred with or without EU membership. Not having freedom of movement doesn't seem to affect Ukrainians' or Russians' ability to move here, for example. It's probably got more to do with economic development and the more individualistic society that brings.
