Paphos Car Dump Fire

The Car Dump near Paphos Municipal Waste Disposal Centre and the Ezousa Valley was on fire this morning. Thankfully it looked like it was fully extinguished by 2PM. Fortunately there wasn't much wind about at the time.

With all the dense black smoke it looks like it was a tyre dump area

Perhaps you are guessing too much....

In posts on social media, Kettis said that the fire burned a pile of scrap cars and a building at the yard that held polyurethane.
The fire damaged office supplies in the building.
Four engines were called in to put out the blaze, and more personnel and two trucks were brought in from Limassol"
Polyurethanes are combustible. Decomposition from fire can produce significant amounts of carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide, in addition to nitrogen oxides, isocyanates, and other toxic products. Because of the flammability of the material, it has to be treated with flame retardants.

So the heavy smoke was possibly not only from tyres.
What amazes me that the Paphos fire department obviously cannot fight this kind of fire, as they needed fire trucks from Limassol to be successful.
I have seen them coming towards Paphos on the highway just before 12 AM and 2 PM the fire and fumes were gone...
