For anyone who's interested, we should have a clear view of the space station passing overhead at around 9.20 pm this evening.

Trev, if you sign up on the NASA site they will send you emails to let you know when the station is over Cyprus. Got mine this morning, so will be on the lookout tonight, if I'm still awake!

You can also download an app for your phone - it will send you a notification a few minutes before the station is due to pass by.

Okay, correction then. There's an app for those folks with modern smartphones or for those who aren't technically challenged

That should cover smudger and Flossie at least

Neither do I - a Lancashire lass.....
I pay nothing for my smartphone - no contracts, no monthly "bundle" fees with free minutes, texts or bandwith. Completely PAYG that's me!
Only use it on WiFi for internet browsing

It always is Shane, I just marvel at the technology, thousands of miles up there, which enables life to coexist so many million miles apart! Always amazes me how fast it travels!
Will always remember the sighting over Cyprus on Tim Peake's last night on the space station, saw it clear as a bell, granddaughter and I gave him a wave. Will live in my menory!

Correction: the ISS is NOT thousands of miles up there..
It's in an Equatorial orbit, 260 miles up, going around Earth every 95 minutes, max 51ºN and 51ºS of the Equator, @ approx 17,500mph.. It's orbit continually changes the view that the Astronauts and Cosmonauats see directly below them, while Mother Earth continues to gently rotate every 24 hours(ish)...

Cost or not, can't think of a situation when I was away from home and needed to access the internet, when I didn't have my iPad. So, happy to stick with the wind up phone and do my internet browsing at home, or wait!! I'm slowly beginning to acclimatise to the advancing years!!! Never ever thought I would say that!
Having now said that, Georgi never moves out of the house without both her iPad and iPhone, so I'm covered all ways in emergencies!!
At the moment that is!!! If things change I may contact you Jules!!
Hope alls well with you and yours.

I stand corrected Al, it's still a helluva way above the earth. And I still marvel at it.

A couple of years ago it flew over the UK on Christmas Eve. There were loads out Santa spotting with their kids that night.
