Has anyone else had an email from Yahoo to say they are updating the system and would we give them ones password etc.? I’m a little unsure whether to go ahead or is it a hoax

There is no need to be unsure: you can be very sure that it's not a hoax but an attempt at crime against your interests.

your email provider never know your password they only store a hash of the password from which is impossible to recreate the original password.
all they can do is reset your password so you can store it again.
so they will never ask you to send the password in clear text.

Thanks for your comments, I’ll ignore that email and see what happens, one never knows who to believe these days
