In terms of temperature, I agree with the Met office and, in fact, I think this has been one of the coolest summers since we came out here to Cyprus. The max temperature here, in Mosfiloti, has been 38.3° C, a couple of days ago, corresponding to about 39.5° in the Nicosia suburbs. I ignore the Met office peaks at Athalassa, as they are one offs and not an average. The maximum here, in Mosfiloti, a few years ago was 42.8° C (if I remember correctly, it hovered around 44° C, around the Nicosia district, on one occasion), so that you can see that the statement "out of the ordinary" is meaningful.

What has made this year slightly uncomfortable is a tiny bit higher than average relative humidity.

As I write at 14:45, the temperature here is 36.3° C after a maximum of 36.7° C just 20 minutes ago.

Although we are, I think, 14 km from the sea, as the crow flies, we get the seabreeze, usually starting about midday. Today, the maximum gust was 5.0 m/s at 14:42 and the maximum average was 4.8 m/s at the same time.

I have to say that August is probably the most uncomfortable month for me because of being unable to have a walk during the day. However, as far as we're concerned, this summer is just the same as every other summer of the past 19 years we've lived in Cyprus.

Just come back from a walk to the village center to get my mail about 150 yard each way.
Got in the house and the first thing I did was take my cloths off as they where sticking to me.
Then towel my self down three times and I am still dripping wet.
And it's 37 in the shade in the court yard.

That is more because of the humidity them because of the temperature. This causes the heat index to rise, making it more uncomfortable, especially when the wind is low. If you like, it's the analogy of it feeling cold in winter because of a biting wind. When the humidity is low, such as in the desert, even 40° C is not unacceptable.
