Yes, I read a fuller version in the Cyprus Mail. See Last Sundays Mail P 3. This is close to the long awaited future plan for the Akamas. It cites re - zoning of residential and tourist development. Will appeal to both developers and local village communities where locals are waiting to sell land. It also talks about the installation of asphalt roads and tourist facilities. Maybe ''Small Hotels'. It will be debated by the House Environment Committee on 9th June.
Needless to say The Greens and others are not in favour.
So the saga of the Akamas Plan continues.

Not much point in discussing the Akamas in the House; the response is a foregone conclusion that the deputies, supposedly looking after our interests, automatically refute anything that is opposite to THEIR own interests.

Yes, I agree with you on that.They will be more interested in deciding the development potential, and how best to profit from them. One things for sure, once tarmaced roads throughout the Akamas have been built, the peace and quiet will have gone for ever..

That's not true at all. I can drive a couple of miles away from Polemi and be slap bang in the middle of nowhere in utter peace and quiet, save for the buzzing of my drone overhead. You could build several major roads through the Akamas without impacting an awful lot of the countryside.

I'm not saying that they should. I like it how it is. But the notion that a bit of tarmac is going to destroy the whole Akamas is just hyperbole.

Not the tarmac, I agree. It's the objects on the tarmac and the objects inside those objects on the tarmac who will destroy the pristine land.

Aside from driving to Blue Lagoon or Lara Bay, I honestly don't think most people will be that interested. You only have to look at how empty Cape Greko tends to remain, despite having roads through it etc.

Yes, agreed that tarmaced roads won't cause any noise in its self..But as was said, lots of people will head for Lara Beach.The hatching of the endangered young turtles takes place mainly in Jul-August the height of the tourist season.How will numbers of people using the beach at this time affect this? The building the Anassa Hotel on another turtle beach there has already impacted the breeding turtles there. I hope (but doubt) a way will be found to protect the turtles and allow them to breed there.

At the beach where the Anassa Hotel was built were never turtles before. I lived in that area since 1984 and used that beach nearly every day. If there are turtles now..... great!! Tell us.

Max, Interesting that you say that there were no turtles nesting on the beach prior to where Anassa was built, now some years ago. Have never heard this from any other source...
When it was first built and opened, it was reported that the bright lights of the hotel caused problems when the eggs hatched, with baby Turtles heading towards the lights there, instead of the to sea.

Well, I was one of the few people living in walking distance to the Anassa Beach at that time. (from 1984-1997)

By the way: even the Mayor of Neo Chorion mentioned one day that on this stretch of beach never turtles laid their eggs....
