There are some old Pill Boxes / Lookout Posts (delete as you see fit) between Coral Bay and Sea You Beach Bar. I know they are all over the place, but these particular ones have a story behind them. Somebody posted about them (I think it was MM) a few years ago, but I cannot find it.
Can anybody shed any light?

We have sometimes come across these reinforced pill boxes in fairly isolated areas. They seemed to have been put near EOKA hideouts. These are sometimes signed. Maybe these coastal ones relate to 'the struggle' years. After all, General Grivas arrived on the Chloraka coast, hence the need to keep an eye on ships in the area by British forces? Or maybe these were used in WWW 11 when the island was concerned about a German forces invasion here, as happened in Crete?

Im sure the last thing an EOKA hideout would want, is a big concrete box near it

Obviously I can't confirm the age of these pill boxes, but they must have been built where they were for a reason. Most likely built by a British Army unit (who else?). Why? for survelience purposes. During the troubles it was essential to keep an eye on terrorist movementst ( yes, if a person was British). There was a loss of manpower from ambushes.
Probably in this period the road network outside towns was very different, so certain routes along narrow isolated roads and mule tracks would have been used by both local people and the military. Very different times from what we are used to these days.

They weren't built by a British Army Unit. They were built by a local Cypriot.

I bet the Kissonerga Muchtar knows, as they are on his patch. Perhaps someone on here who lives in the village could ask him.
