The legislation in Cyprus does not give the right to the Labor Minister to transfer the 1<sup>st</sup> May holiday, which is on Sunday, to Monday, as this will be done in Greece. So the holiday in Cyprus is on Sunday, when general shops will remain closed. Kiosks and bakeries can operate normally with increased compensation for employees. ...

What does that mean for supermarkets? Are they considered general shops?

supermarkets are general shops and closed.

Maybe they will, but how about Phillipos? They don't seem to follow such edicts.

As far as I know some supermarkets in tourist areas have different rules.

Possibly the fines imposed are low, so it would be
beneficial to stay open and make loads of money
and easily cover the fine cost.
