Perhaps the fact that sometimes one's post on anything remotely controversial may get 'shot down in flames' as it were ( no pun intended) may put people off?
Also, the appalling war in Ukraine could be judged to be political and removed to the politics section which tends to freeze further discussion...

What was the point of this thread? If you want to talk about something, just talk about it.

With regards to Ukraine, what exactly is there to say that hasn't already been said?

I don't quite follow your logic. The reason none of these topics has been touched upon(which was the question) is not because I don't NECESSARILY want to talk about them
It is because nobody wants to talk about them. And you are a subset of "nobody".

For my part, I don't follow your logic of wanting to know nobody is talking about stuff that you don't want to talk about yourself. But hey ho.

I find it intriguing why nobody wants to talk about the most talked about subjects of the moment, being a change from what was previously pretty standard
Only speaking for myself, I listen to it morning noon and night on the radio and TV, very depressing what is going on, and I dont think there is much we can debate, I'm guessing everyone on here thinks Putin is a ****,
I cant see anyone trying to defend his actions, so that's why I haven't posted .and Probably why others have not

Les Bean wrote: Tue Apr 19, 2022 6:23 pm This is true whl to a certain extent, though there are new developments every day, and I don't remember seeing much discussion at the start (possibly wrong here, if so, sorry). The latest Partygate revelations are new as is Rwanda immigration plan. Not a mention here, only a short while ago this would have been front and centre.
As I say, my enquiring mind finds this intriguing
Why dont you start a thread , and see how it developers?

I suggested that already. Turns out he doesn't want to, but can't understand why nobody else wants to either.

Yes but if you did understand then it wouldn't be intriguing.

mouse wrote: Wed Apr 20, 2022 9:21 am Well to be consistent and go off at a tangent having totally missed the point of the thread, I think ministers inventing new laws and legislating, certainly those pertaining to the vehicles and the use of the road, they should pause with inventing the new and figure out how to enforce those that already exist . The trendy and fashionable new laws will only be ignored the same as the old ones so the ministers are totally wasting their time and our money.
Are you talking about the UK or Cyprus?, and what are these trendy new laws please.

Tangents are all well and good, but what's wrong with a good old fashioned sine?

Just had to google what sine was  still no wiser

What sine means?
the trigonometric function that for an acute angle is the ratio between the leg opposite the angle when it is considered part of a right triangle and the hypotenuse.

It is basic geometry.

You have sine, cosine and tangent.

Let's say you are up a small tower, at a window. You tie a 5 metre rope to it, go to the ground, and pull the rope along the ground as far as you can. If you then measure the angle between the rope and the ground (in this case it was 36.9degrees) you can work out the height of the tower and the distance you are from the tower. That is because you have made a right angle triangle. The height of the tower, with relation to the angle you measured, is known as the OPPOSITE. The distance from you to the tower is the ADJACENT. Finally, the rope itself is the HYPOTENUSE.

The sine of the angle is OPPOSITE / HYPOTENUSE. We know the HYPOTENUSE, that is 5, We know the angle, 36.9, so we have the following equation:

Sine (36.9) = OPPOSITE / 5

At this point you would consult your log book, or use a calculator to look up what sine 36.9 is. You will find it about 0.6.

So, 0.6 = OPPOSITE / 5

Therefore, OPPOSITE = 3!

You know that the height of the tower to the window, is 3 metre.

Doing the same using COSINE will give you the distance away from the tower, which in this case will be 4 metres, as it is a 3-4-5 triangle.
